Our great Fab Lab team have created and assembled an Ikea Grow Room, a spherical structure that enables people to grow their own plants and food in a local and sustainable manner. The Fab Lab team built the Grow Room from scratch through using the Fab Lab facility and our high tech machines. They then proceeded to plant it with diverse and local plants and put it all together this May! A great way to encourage healthy living and a stress free environment that we can have our meetings in!
April's Open Day took place on 4/28/2018 with new and exciting workshops and agendas that were shared and practiced by the different and diverse members of our community in the North. This Open Day included 3D Printing and Laser Cutting workshops; were participants learned about the machines used, how they work, and practiced what they learned through printing 3D models and laser cutting items. Our agenda also included a new and interesting workshop called "Capacitive Piano", this workshop had participants building their own simple piano which incorporated hooking up fruits (apples and bananas) to wires and an Arduino board to play piano notes. The IOT Workshop was also apart of our agenda which helped participants know more about this field and how it will affect the world around us in the next coming years. And last but not least, drones! Participants were given the chance to fly drones that were created in our FabLab.
A great day filled with knowledge and fun that we got to share and experience with our community.
Luminus Shamal Start and the JADE project signed a mutual agreement to better serve Incubated startups at Shamal Start to support entrepreneurs in their path to success, development and innovation in Irbid and Mafraq provinces as part of the EU and Jordan partnership for that aims to the development of the private sector.
The first panel discussion in the Innovation and Job Creation Conference in the North of Jordan took place on the 25th of APril, were Shamal Start also took an active role by participating in the conference with Eng. Ibrahim Faza, Shamal Start Project Manager, as the representative to the project.
Consuls from several embassies of the European Union visited Shamal Start to learn more about our project, meet with our startups and listen to their achievements and stories, as well as, see our latest developments and innovative items created and manufactured in our Fab Lab.

On April 15th 2018, Luminus Shamal Start and Yarmouk University signed a cooperation agreement built on both parties' mutual interest in developing and flourishing the North of Jordan with a keen interest in supporting the youth in the region. As per the agreement, Shamal Start is excited to deliver training and courses to the YU students and happy to have easy access to such a prestige University in Jordan.
We are looking forward to start our collaboration with Yarmouk University and believe great accomplishments will rise through it.

The EU and Jordan partnered up for the development of the private sector, were the EU funded the JADE project and signed an agreement with 6 industrial & tourism business associations & 5 startup incubators. The JADE Project is a three-year project targeting 100 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and 60 innovative startups, providing them with development opportunities focused on increasing exportation, maximizing productivity and creating new employment opportunities. This agreement is a growth opportunity for the Jordanian private sector, and as EU Ambassador, Andrea Matteo Fontana Fontana mentioned in the signing ceremony, “Today’s event demonstrates the EU’s continuous support to the Jordanian private sector,” stressing that the EU “wants to make sure that companies grow, new jobs are created and Jordanian products gain more access to the world’s most competitive markets”.
An aspiring agreement for a developed Jordan, we are looking forward to see all the new ideas and projects coming ahead.
Our 9th wave training was a full 6-day training (from 24/3- 29/3/2018) delivered by Shamal Start and CEWAS. The boot-camp focused on the business model and how to create it; there were lots of case studies from aspiring local businesses that came throughout the training, applicants listened to their success stories, related their work to their business models and practiced their business strategy structures with them. Trainees also got insight on the next incubation process and how to pitch their entrepreneurial ideas to a jury. They got to form the structure of their presentations, share it with their teammates and practice it in a pool of constructive feedback.
We wish all our new applicants good luck in their final pitching process and excited for them to become a part of our incubated startups.
The 17th of March was our first open day of the year! Open days are events we hold in our fabrication Laboratory (The Fab Lab) were we welcome all individuals from all ages and backgrounds to attend, engage and have a good time. Our open day is an opportunity to learn about all our machines, materials, services and get to know some of our startups closely in a fun, dynamic and interactive enviroment. Individuals learned how to use our 3D printers by printing models, inspected our VR system by trying it, create their very own mini robots in a matter of minutes and of course, meet with our creative startups and learn their crafts.
We were happy to meet with our community members and glad to see them learn knew things by having fun.
Our 8th wave boot-camp "Lean Training" was delivered by yours truly, the Shamal Start team. Five days filled with energy, drive and innovation held in ZINC's platform starting from 3/18 - 3/22/2018. The training involved the Lean methodology tools which included market and needs analysis, minimum viable product, the Lean canvas, profit and loss, in addition to team communication and team building activities. A dynamic week were participants learned crucial pointers for their next phase, the pitching, and their future plans and goals for their ideas and businesses.
