ShamalStart 5th Anniversary

5 Years of Continued Innovation & Excellence

With the presence of the European Union Delegation’s First Counselor and Head of Cooperation, Ms. Corinne Andre, EU representatives, partners, and stakeholders, Luminus ShamalStart – the EU-funded leading business accelerator and seed investor in the north of Jordan – celebrated its fifth anniversary, underscoring its mission to empower makers, innovators, and entrepreneurs.

During the ceremony, ShamalStart presented its achievements and success stories during the past five years. Guests also toured Shamal Start’s facilities, including the digital fabrication facility, “FabLab Irbid”, the first FabLab in Jordan and one of the 20 largest digital fabrication laboratories in the world, where Shamal Start’s accelerated startups displayed their ideas, products, challenges, and success stories.

Since its inception in 2016, Luminus ShamalStart received more than 5,000 business ideas, trained over 1,000 entrepreneurs, extended over 30,000 manufacturing hours through FabLab Irbid, incubated 130 startups, granted JOD 1.5 million in seed funding and generated more than 400 direct job opportunities.

Commenting on the anniversary, Ms. Corinne Andre, EU First Counselor and Head of Cooperation said: “Above all, since its creation the Luminus ShamalStart project has largely demonstrated that a new generation of private stakeholders’ consortium can contribute to creating more than 400 sustainable jobs, contribute to local growth development for 130 start-ups and marginalised groups’ inclusiveness thus supporting social cohesion in Northern Jordan.

For his part, Eng. Ibrahim Faza, Manager of Luminus ShamalStart, stated: “Luminus ShamalStart was established with a mission to enrich the economic lifeblood of north of Jordan through the creation of high potential, innovative startups.
