FIRST DIGITAL FABRICATION LAB (FABLAB) IN JORDAN
The fabrication facility in Irbid is the first digital fabrication laboratory in Jordan, and one of the 20 largest facilities of its kind among the International Fab Foundation network. Luminus ShamalStart inaugurated Fab Lab Irbid in 2016, to offer inspired prospective project owners in the north of Jordan the needed resources to transform pioneering ideas into actual prototypes that serve their local communities and advance industries at large.
Fab lab Irbid comprises of three main sections: the clean area, industrial area, and the outdoor area. Each section includes an assorted number of machines for inventors to make use of. The clean area includes 3D printers, the electronics shop, design studio, as well as robotics section. On the other side of the lab is the industrial area. The industrial area houses CNC machines in the metal shop, wood shop, molding shop, as well as a laser cutter. The latest extension of Fab Lab Irbid is the outdoor area; the outdoor area was made to allow makers and innovators to complete their prototypes and projects while using machinery that cannot be used indoors because of hazardous fumes and the need for a larger space.
